About this event

HOW TO EDIT YOUR OWN WRITING All writing will be improved by editing, even the drafts of best-selling authors. Check the acknowledgement pages of your favorite authors if you doubt this. It’s hard to edit yourself, because we are so familiar with, and fond of, what we write, it’s hard to see where it might be made better. This presentation, by an editor with more than forty-five years of highly professional experience with national publishers, will show you many small and larger things you can do to edit yourself, and give yourself a better chance of success. If you want to be published by a traditional publisher, editing whatever you send them will give you a better chance of getting your foot in the door. If you are a self-publisher, editing is even more important, because you won’t have the publisher’s editor to catch your mistakes and suggest improvements. Business letters, memo, and even emails can be made more effective by editing, too. Come and learn how to edit yourself! CAROL CARTAINO has more than forty years of highly professional experience in the world of books, fiction and nonfiction. She was a trade book editor for Prentice-Hall, Inc., in New Jersey for ten years, then spent the next decade as editor-in-chief of Writer’s Digest Books in Cincinnati, the fountainhead of information and inspiration for aspiring writers. Since then she has been a freelance editor, ghostwriter, and advisor for authors, publishers, and literary agents all over the country from her small farm in Adams County, Ohio. She has written Myths and Truths About Coyotes, It Happened in Ohio!, Keeping Work Simple, and The Man Behind a Billion Screams: Stan Checketts (the biography of one of this country’s best-known inventors of high-thrill amusement park rides), and coauthored Clutter’s Last Stand, Get Organized, Get Published! and many other books by best-selling author Don Aslett. She has given speeches and workshops on writing, publishing, and the subjects of her books at writers’ conferences, libraries, colleges, nature centers, and more, in thirteen states.
